ANDREWANDREW IN THE AMIGO ROOM WITH HOWIE PYRO AND A SPECIAL EDITION OF CHILDREN OF THE SUN : SATURDAY APRIL 17

Saturday night we joined weekly Ace Palm Springs DJ Victor Rodriguez for a special Children of the Sun party with friends Tim Sweeney, Steven Hawley of Codebreaker, and DJ Chris Bowen. AndrewAndrew dropped by the Amigo Room to spin with Howie Pyro after interviewing performers in Levi’s Suite 501.

POOLSIDE WITH COTTON JONES, THE DUTCHESS AND THE DUKE, SAGE REDMAN, AND TU FAWNING : SATURDAY APRIL 17

Saturday was a blissful mix of mellow sets by Cotton Jones, The Dutchess and the Duke, and Sage Redman. Tu Fawning’s perfectly executed intensity had us wowed. Paradoxically, it made an afternoon by the pool even more calming. Over in the commune, we were customizing our own pop-up shop gear, playing foosball, and hanging out with some handsome four-legged gents near the Levi’s gifting suite. More later on our special edition of Children of the Sun in the Commune last night, and a guest spot from AndrewAndrew about their night in the Amigo Room.

STONES THROW X FOOLSGOLD AFTERPARTY : FRIDAY APRIL 16

The Commune was overtaken last night by awesome DJs, vodka, and lots of fun people. Stones Throw and Fools Gold Records threw down in a disco boogie and house music death match. Peanut Butter Wolf, J Rocc, James Pants, Brothers Macklovitch (A-Trak & Dave 1 of Chromeo), Jokers of the Scene, and Chris Bag Raiders represented. And Howie Pyro rocked the Amigo Room with friends from Luxuria Music. After it was all over, we hung out in the hot tub under the stars.

POOLSIDE WITH EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS, Y LA BAMBA, VANAPRASTA, AND EVARO : FRIDAY APRIL 16

We just have eleven words for you (see above). These four incredible bands made yesterday perfect. Eastern Conference Champions played a mesmerizing cover of I’m On Fire. Vanaprasta harmonized beautifully, and Evaro, a Joshua Tree band that played at our Valentine’s Day party, of course totally killed it. And we can’t really find words for Y La Bamba. They were just ridiculously good. A group of givers, givin’ it.

East Village Radio was broadcasting live from the Commune, where local artists were customizing Ray-Ban cases and Converse. And there were also 501s on sale for $5.01, which is pretty clever.

DESERT GOLD PRE-PARTY : THURSDAY APRIL 15

We had a really difficult afternoon yesterday drinking rum by the pool while DJs Huggs and Alf Alpha spun for a special poolside episode of DJ Day's ¡Reunión!, and Gas Lamp Killer and DJ Eleven join Day in the Amigo Room for a packed party at night. Don’t pity us. The air is perfect, hot pink flowers are spilling off the vines around the pool, and there are very happy people everywhere.

Artist and Texan Will Bryant, who we hung out with at SXSW, is our resident artist for the weekend, hand-painting signs and customizing Converse. He’s got a new pair of sunglasses on. Drop him a compliment if you see him. Will and resident-wizard Belin Liu painted a big pair of sunglasses for Ray-Ban late last night in the Commune. Ray-ban is set up in the Commune with Levi’s, where you can buy sunglasses and jeans, customize your denim yourself, or have a local artist customize for you, or visit Hit and Run - they’re doing live screen-printing through the weekend. Plus Rudy’s is giving free haircuts.

Here are some photos from our adventures yesterday. Stay tuned for incredible poolside bands this afternoon, and the Stones Throw & Fools Gold after-party tonight.
