]Antony Gormley’s Event Horizon is inspiring people to look sharply at the world we can trudge through without truly noticing. Gormley hopes the installation will create ‘a relational field in which the passerby as well as the aware view is implied in a matrix of looking and being look at.’ It’s an invitation to implicate ourselves in a landscape that’s suddenly more alive.
The first of Gormley Event Horizon contest hit the ground running with a bunch of fantastic entries, including a “video painting.” But Lauryn Bushman’s picture of a Gormley on the Empire State Building stole the show - she’s our winner for Week 1, and we’re sending Lauryn an Ace Hotel NYC t-shirt to demonstrate our admiration.
The entries we got for Week 2 also really impressed us, as well . They include a photo of a drawing made by a 6 year old, and fake-out Gormleys made by some guys that were disappointed when their work building wasn’t chosen as a Gormley site and took matters into their own hands. Check out all the new entries and look carefully — there are hidden details and sentinels it can take a moment to see. Like magic eye. Vote for your favorites — winners get Stumptown coffee, drink tickets, t-shirts, and other stuff. Plus, they get an additional 10% off their room rate if they book our special package for the event.
Send your entries to eventhorizon@acehotel.com.
