There’s a hive of bees atop Ace New York. Whitney, a very hard worker herself, started the hive with her boyfriend when it was still illegal to keep bees in New York City. She had to find somewhere to put it after they broke up and she got full custody of the bees. Now they’re on our roof, working away busily (and legally). We’re hoping to make a green space up there — the bees are a good start, and April Bloomfield of the Breslin wants to garden (this actually triples the life of a roof). There’s an inspiring view, and Whitney’s bee smoker (fueled by burlap Stumptown bags) creates a sense of nascent adventure and intrigue, standing on top of the world. Maybe next time you stay with us there’ll be a little jar of honey waiting on your desk…
