Grand Park’s being commandeered by the Renegade Craft Fair this weekend — the nomadic national bazaar that jumbles up a frankly hedonistic number of makers and doers for a swap meet of epic proportions. They’re gonna bleed you dry and you’re gonna thank them for it.

Last Thursday we had a pair of parties — one for each coast — celebrating bustling group shows in both the Gallery at Ace Hotel New York and Segovia Hall at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles.

First the sun went down on Warm Up PLATFORMS, our show co-presented by MoMA PS1,  with the work of Warm Up stage designers The Principals, Fort Makers and CONFETTISYSTEM. That show’s on display through July 31.

Over on the left coast, our lady loves of Inspired Women of Los Angeles celebrated their first anniversary with First Love — a one-night pop-up show with work from Megan Mcisaac, Nouel Riel, Ash Anthony, Future Eyes and more.

Keep an eye out for future developments in the IWoLA x Ace love affair as it develops.

George Evelyn’s steadily approaching the silver anniversary of his Nightmares on Wax sobriquet — 25 years of beats, rhymes and life — and he’s not slowing down any time soon. We’re lucky enough to have him Upstairs tonight at Ace DTLA — going back to basics for a stripped-down DJ set.

George is a worldly guy, so we thought we’d get the skinny on some quick travel tips.

What’s the best piece of travel advise you’ve ever got?

Always go off the beaten track. The high street or the city will never give you the real taste of how people live.

What things do you never go on a trip without?

Music, books, sunglasses and swimwear.
What’s your favorite airport?
Schipol airport, Holland.

Favorite film?
Magnolia

Fullerton, CA
We took a trip out to Burger HQ this week — to the O.C. strip mall that the Burger boys Lee and Sean call home. Within these hallowed, pungent walls, Burger Records has leveraged their prolific label into a modest punk revolution — inhabiting an all-encompassing, suburban teen dream with a special kind of stony acumen.
The logical heir to SST’s cultish SoCal throne, Burger is, in its strange way, maybe the last label that really matters — a logo whose personality has managed to become bigger than the sum of its parts. Burger world have granted them a temporary visa to visit us Upstairs at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles for the first of their monthly takeovers — this time with a DJ set by GAP DREAM, a live performance by Gabe Fulvimar and Bobby May plus visuals Grant Shumate. They gave us some Burger-y clues for what we might expect to hear:

Are you a person, dear reader? Well well. Good news. Along with JD Samson, we’re throwing a Pride party for people. It’s the first leg of our four-stop tour to bring everyone we can together to dance and smile and love and sweat. If you can’t wait till this weekend, JD made a mix called — and for — All of Us. It just keeps getting better. See you on the dance floor.

Last night in LA, Swedish siren Lykke Li enchanted a sold out audience at The Theatre, and we’re still basking in the glow of her spell. We’ve been waiting months for this moment, and L.L.’s command of the space was awe-inspiring — the elegant bluster of her voice convincingly taking over every corner of the house. Think we might have fallen a little bit more in love with you, Lykke Li. Is it too soon to do it again?

God is in the house.
His reputation and mustache precede him. Nick Cave brings his Bad Seeds to The Theatre at Ace Hotel July 12 — burning down the house with his recent masterpiece Push The Sky Away. We’re losing our minds over here at the chance to host one of music’s most respected elder statesmen — because fortunately in Cave’s case, respected isn’t the same as respectful.
Tickets hit the street Friday May 9, but lucky for us, we’ve got a special pre-sale code for our friends to make sure we all get to share the experience.
Pre-sale starts today at 10am. Use the code SKYAWAY.

Pride is coming. And everyone is invited. This year we’re tickled all colors of the rainbow that JD Samson is teaming with us to pop the pride parties for our locals in LA / LDN / NYC / PSP. JD’s been a pardner to Ace here for a hot minute, and it’s with worlds of pleasure that we work together again. The cherry on top: JD went out and made a special mixtape for our aural delight. Participate. Be active. Let’s be out and let’s do this. #everyonespride

Our beloved Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles — once the Texaco building — makes a cameo in this original Superman clip. We’re guessing it’s George Reeves starring in Superman and the Mole Men.

Thanks Kev and Don for the tweet.
