The original Ace New York keycard and sketch from Kenzo Minami's Turbine of Life mural in room 1011. Keep an eye out here for our studio visit and interview with Kenzo about his last decade of work, obsession and evolution, and his upcoming retrospective in Chelsea. Kenzo, we love you and your brain.

London’s Rio Cinema is an institution of boozy, Art Deco and inexpensive cinema-going. But it’s on its last leg, and needs your help. Viva la Sunday matinee.

Ace NYC artist and good pal Timothy Goodman created a project with his partner in crime and good friend Jessica Walsh to address their mutually gnarly dating issues. The project is complete, but you have to wait as long as they did to figure out how it ends up. See a new post daily at 40 Days of Dating.

“Phyllis Galembo’s interest in the masquerade traditions of Africa and its diaspora began twenty five years ago, with her first visit to Nigeria. Since then, she has travelled widely in west and central Africa, and regularly to Haiti, making portraits that document and describe the transformative power of the mask. Her subjects are participants in masquerade events, both traditional African ceremonies and contemporary fancy dress and carnival, all of whom use costume, body paint and masks to create mythic characters – sometimes entertaining and humorous, often dark and frightening, and always powerful and thrilling. Titled after the Haitian Kreyòl word for mask, Maske is the first comprehensive collection of these portraits.”

One of our favorite books to carry: MASKE by PHYLLIS GALEMBO

We may not share a street corner with Mohawk General Store, or even a neighborhood, but knowing that we share as much as distantly linked power wires and cellular data molecules in the stilted summer air of Los Angeles makes us happy. Go in, get this book and say hi to our friends.

If you’re on the other coast, you can pick up prints by Phyllis Galembo at Steven Kasher Gallery in New York.

Lowell is our new favorite spot in Portland. Buy a trinket for your altar and cloak your shoulders in a storied, kinesthetically-fulfilling textile from far yonder. Maya and Dino are the purveyors, curators and charmers at Lowell — stop in and see them some time.

The very lovely people at Bistrotheque in London are throwing a party tonight, and our friend Hattie Fox of That Flower Shop has created a fifth dimension of floral reality for the occasion.

Monocle EIC Tyler Brûlé was kind enough to show us around the not-yet-open Monocle Café in Marylebone — the London counterpart to Monocle’s Tokyo café and shop in the Hankyu Men’s department store in Chiyoda-ku. Espresso, homemade muesli and symphonic salads will make a great introduction to desserts by Japanese chef Masayuki Hara — we’re particularly looking forward to the macarons, green-tea roll-cake and strawberry gateau from Hara’s own shop, Lanka. “We wanted to create a relaxed space for a morning coffee meeting, a lengthy weekend lunch with the papers, and a glass of prosecco after work too,” Tyler says. Stay tuned to this channel for recipes and more from the Monocle team — they cut the ribbon this coming Monday.
