Punky Brewster taught us that feet are made for flossing the inimitable, unmatchable quintessence of you-ness. In that spirit, we present you with three colorways of the Ace Hotel x Generic Surplus Borstal Shoe by Steven Harrington (long ass name), meant for mixing and matching as summer lulls into its balmy dusk. Now up on our shop.

Steven Harrington painted this awesome mural at Ace Hotel & Swim Club during Desert Gold 2012 and he got black paint all up in his custom Generic Man x Ace Hotel x Steve Borstal Shoes. That’s cool. If you want some, snatch up one of the few remaining limited edition pairs on our shop.

Steven Harrington invented a pictorial language of symbols and runes for his collaborative capsule collection with Ace Hotel and Generic Surplus for this year’s Desert Gold: Roadside Attraction pop-up shop. Steven has constructed his vision of a roadside desert pit stop — a place evocative of the odd wonders that dot the blacktop in the wide open spaces, filled with original art and desert-celebratory wares.
The Teepee Tee, California Tee and Long-Sleeve Shirt, Painted Rock Tee, Iconography Tank, Harrington Bandana and Harrington Towel are available now on our online shop. The Borstal Shoe Collection is available for pre-order and available for shipping in early May.

Steven Harrington is painting a ginormous mural on the side of the Commune for Desert Gold 2012. Steven’s also taking a break from his pop-up shop with Generic Surplus, Roadside Attraction, to guest DJ Saturday night in the Amigo Room with Stronghold.
There’s still a handful of rooms available, but they’re going fast. See the full line-up and book a room.

Welcome all ye wanderers and weirdos — Desert Gold lives again. This year, our pal Steve Harrington is putting together a pop-up shop in the Clubhouse that pays homage to road trips, curiosity shops and the forgotten places tucked along the long black river where all the magic happens. He’s also creating a gigantic mural on the side of the Commune and launching a capsule collection inspired by his chalk drawings scattered through the Joshua Tree desert, including a shoe in collaboration with Ace and Generic Surplus exclusively for the event, so if you show up with only a walking stick and a crazed look in your eye, we can at least outfit you with some kicks.
Stay tuned for more interviews with performers as well as our very special 2012 artists in residence.

We had a party for Independence Day with Generic Surplus at Ace Palm Springs. DJs Thomas Bullock, Nitedog, Eug, and Victor Rodriguez spun through the weekend, and we barbequed by the pool. Here are some shots and video from the festivities.

You’re invited to to Ace Palm Springs for Generic America Weekend, our Independence Day party with Generic Surplus. We kick off Friday night in the Amigo Bar and go late, then party through Monday, July 5, which you probably have off from work. On the 4th we’re grilling at the Commune Pool. DJs Nitedog (Blackdisco) and Eug (Public Release/Face, SF) provide the tunes for the weekend, with a live performance by Adele Jacques and Disco Fromage, and special guest musical selectors we’ll tell you about later.
See more about special rates on Facebook.
As you may remember, we released these Ace x Generic Surplus pool shoes in new colorways, and a handy pool bag, earlier this year.

We collaborated with Generic Surplus and Arkitip last year to create Ace-exclusive shoes perfect for the poolside and for walks in the desert. This spring, we’re re-introducing these very coveted kicks in new colorways, and with all the same great elements as the original. The classic low-top laced plimsoll silhouette has been re-imagined with a mesh upper made of quick-drying canvas that keeps your feet cool and dry. The vulcanized non-slip sole is perfect for poolside cocktail mingling on a Sunday afternoon.

Check them out early (they’re due out April 15) and reserve a pair with Arkitip. Keep them at the ready for your first foray into the sun this year at Ace Palm Springs.
