Ace Hotel

Steven Harrington painted this awesome mural at Ace Hotel & Swim Club during Desert Gold 2012 and he got black paint all up in his custom Generic Man x Ace Hotel x Steve Borstal Shoes. That’s cool. If you want some, snatch up one of the few remaining limited edition pairs on our shop.

We made a custom nail polish with Uslu Airlines in homage of a love for travel and new horizons. You can snag a bottle for your mum until 5:30pm EST today — we’ll need some time to get it to her in the mail for Sunday.

Your mom’s big day is coming up, May 13 — even though we hope you’re lavishing her year-round, it’s always nice to have an extra excuse. We have hand-screened gift wrap with vintage ephemera stamped with affirmations so we can swath up something nice for her from our online shop. If your mom likes to smell nice and feel like a fancy lady, you could get her some Pearl+ Soap — sumptuous-smelling soaps made with crushed pearl by our friend Janet Jay — set in a lovely little cedar vessel. You can even get her a subscription where she’ll get a set of these petite soaps every two months.
If your mom is kind of butch, she might be into our wings + horns boxing robes, and if she’s into the wild side, get her a beautiful and scandalous Jeremy Kost book. Maybe she’s an artiste, or she’s a peeping Tom, or she’s a high profile street fashion blogger (and she owns an old Polaroid) — if so, she might be really into this. Or maybe your dad is exploring his gender.
Or you could just stay home and make her a card with crayons in homage to the good old days, or burn your portrait onto her lawn, or get her name tattooed on your neck. The sky’s the limit! But if you want us to send her something, order it by May 9 so we can get it to you in time. And if you have mommy issues, just get something for yourself and wear black. It takes all kinds.

Our friend Sam at Tanner Goods spoke with filmmaker Ryan Bush about learning craft and making real things, and belt maestro Alex Toyoshima rocked the Ace x Tanner Goods Days of Heaven leather bracelet.

Steven Harrington invented a pictorial language of symbols and runes for his collaborative capsule collection with Ace Hotel and Generic Surplus for this year’s Desert Gold: Roadside Attraction pop-up shop. Steven has constructed his vision of a roadside desert pit stop — a place evocative of the odd wonders that dot the blacktop in the wide open spaces, filled with original art and desert-celebratory wares.
The Teepee Tee, California Tee and Long-Sleeve Shirt, Painted Rock Tee, Iconography Tank, Harrington Bandana and Harrington Towel are available now on our online shop. The Borstal Shoe Collection is available for pre-order and available for shipping in early May.

People have adorned their wrists with leather since at least the ancient Egypt days, so we’re glad to see this age-old craft being passed along. Our friends at Tanner Goods made these limited edition Days of Heaven leather bracelets in Portland, Oregon from vegetable-tanned English Bridle American leather. The small team of craftsmen at Tanner produce every piece by hand in their Portland studio. They use the same tools that have been put to work for decades manufacturing heritage leather goods. They’ve even been known to hunt down antique equipment to get the authentic results they’re after. All of their sewing is done by a heritage saddle maker who started in 1964, and he’s been generous enough to pass along his knowledge and skill to the rest of the team.
The Ace x Tanner Goods leather bracelet sports a geometric diamonds relief pattern, brass fastener and Ace Hotel & Swim Club Days of Heaven intaglio on the inside. They’re premiering at Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs during Desert Gold and online.

A Valentine’s Day without lingerie is like a fish without a bicycle, so we asked Araks to help get you into the spirit. The result is this subtly spartan little number that celebrates your beauty in its natural state of being, made exclusively for Valentine’s Day at Ace Hotel New York. We love her grounded sensibility and nuanced sense of style. The Ace x Araks Teddy is made in New York of sheer, fog-hued cotton crepe, with slate tulle trim, adjustable straps, ruching detail in the front and lower back, and custom Ace x Araks label. This is what we like to wear when we’re smoking a cigarette (don’t try it, bad for you), absorbing the moonglow through an open window, Lou Reed on the record player… opening a letter… lip syncing the lyrics to “Venus in Furs.”
You can pick it up at Ace Hotel New York, at Araks Online, or on our shop — pairs nicely with an Ace x Uslu Airlines manicure, a good cup of coffee and an overhead view of a rain-slicked street. We’re offering a friendly break on all items on our shop through Valentine’s Day with code LOVESHWAG, so take your pick. And, yes, we were being ironic about the fish on a bicycle thing — thanks Gloria!

Introducing the Ace Hotel Letterman Jacket, handcrafted by the craftspeople at Centralia Knitting Mills in Washington, sporting our Ace-designed chenille Ace varsity letter and ruggedly handsome hunter grey pure melton wool from Pendleton’s Oregon mills. The varsity letter has been a symbol of the sporting life since Harvard jocks started rocking letter sweaters back in the late 19th century. By the time Archie sported the big letter “R” for Riverdale High, letter sweaters were giving way to letterman jackets. Family-run Centralia Knitting Mills have been meeting demand making custom varsity jackets since 1939 and they’re still using their original, solid knitting machines to make every jacket.
You’ll pretty much have run of the campus with this one — it’ll serve you well for a row on the Hudson or a stroll through the park with your best girl. Pick it up at Ace NYC or on our shop.
