Ace Hotel

We took some of our Opening Ceremony x Ace Hotel & Swim Club vending machine souvenirs out to desert for some ribs — but they’ll be back for Desert Gold by sunrise. Don’t wait up. Photographed up in Pioneertown, CA, behind Pappy & Harriets.

Some shots from the first cycle of the sun on Desert Gold weekend. In a few minutes, we’re headed off to see Flying Lotus, Fucked Up and some special guests play into the wee hours. For now, we’re looking back over a really good day with new and old friends. Last night, Phoreyz played in the Amigo Room with DJ Day, Gaslamp Killer and friends. This afternoon, Garrett of Ace Palm Springs played with his sister and brother as Hawks and Doves by the pool, Doc Martens hooked a bunch of people up with kicks, we got some swag from the Opening Ceremony vending machine and perused the vintage goods and desert-made masterpieces at Mt. Fuji’s Soul Mountain pop-up. Stay tuned tomorrow for more music and sun — you can click on the button in the sidebar to see our updates.

Opening Ceremony launches its first ever vending machine at Ace Hotel Palm Springs, just in time for Desert Gold during Coachella weekend. Stocked with fun things like candy-colored luggage tags created exclusively for Opening Ceremony by Tumi, Venessa Arizaga’s whimsical bracelets, one-of-a-kind crystal pendants by Unearthen, Opening Ceremony’s mixtape of love songs on a button-shaped MP3 player, tribal earrings by award-winning jewelry designer Pamela Love, Jeremy Scott’s signature-printed designer condoms, and a collection of special trinkets, this big, friendly machine delivers a well-curated assortment of traveling essentials.
Opening Ceremony was founded in 2002 in NYC by our friends Carol Lim and Humberto Leon with the idea of bringing their love of travel and fashion to a concept boutique. Now you can find that love in a concept vending machine. If you’re in the neighborhood this weekend, next or anytime really, come stock up.

If you can’t tell already, we really like the desert. So does Opening Ceremony. They just shot their spring collection with Steve Lee in Calle Zapatos Perdidos for OCTV at Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs.

Levi’s + Opening Ceremony made these garment bags exclusively for guests at the Ace Hotel New York to highlight their new 2011 S/S Chambray collection, for sale at the Opening Ceremony shop just off our lobby.

Stay at the hotel tonight (Friday) and get a complimentary limited edition garment bag.

More shots from the fun as hell party we had at Ace Hotel New York with Opening Ceremony, colette, No. 8a, and OC’s favorite designers for Fashion’s Night Out. Stay tuned for more interviews, photos, and secrets. If you were there and you have some good pictures of you and your loot, send them to us. They may end up here!

There may have been a funner party in the history of fashion week but we’ve never heard of it. Feast your eyes upon the revelers that filled the Ace Hotel New York lobby during Opening Ceremony’s French-inspired flea market for Fashion’s Night Out. Bullhorns and balloons were the least of it. We had a ton of fun with good friends, amazing fashion, and some our favorite style icons, including Chloë Sevigny, Solange Knowles, Lazaro Hernandez, Jack McCollough, Rinko Kikuchi, Spike Jonze, and Humberto and Carol of OC. Stay tuned this week for more pictures, recaps, and moments from OC at Ace, colette, and No. 8a.

Our friends at colette will hail tomorrow from a small truck in front of Ace Hotel New York as part of the Opening Ceremony Fashion’s Night Out flea market in our lobby. Come by for OC at Ace goodies of the French persuasion (exclusive for Fashion’s Night Out) like Darcel Fashion postcards & iPhone slider case and Colette x OC products. You can also score The Selby signed prints, a Minx manicure, among other surprises.

INTERVIEW : HUMBERTO LEON AND CAROL LIM OF OPENING CEREMONY
As we mentioned, and you probably already know, Opening Ceremony at Ace Hotel New York (who just had a nice article in the New York Times yesterday) will be staging a French flea market with their friends, collaborators, and favorite designers in the lobby during Fashion’s Night Out, September 10th. We were able to have a quick chat with Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, currently hailing from Tokyo (and pictured above in Ace-exclusive berets), about the open air market to end all open air markets (except it’s in our lobby).
Hi, Carol and Humberto. We’re excited about OC’s French flea market at Ace New York. Ace and Opening Ceremony have some things in common, among them our love of collaboration. This seems like the perfect showcase for all the fun work you do with friends. What inspired you? Because this year’s country collaboration at Opening Ceremony is USA v. France, we wanted to incorporate a French theme in our Fashion’s Night Out concept. What better way to feature our French collaborations and designers than at a flea market, styled after the famous Parisian market Les Puces de Saint-Ouen? At a traditional bazaar, you can find a miscellany of interesting and often one-of-a-kind items at great bargains. We want to offer the same to those attending our Fashion’s Night Out event.  What are some of the things you’re most excited to see?Our flea market will feature some of the most creative individuals in the fashion industry, so we’re looking forward to see how they decorate their booths. Several designers will also be offering one-of-a-kind items for sale, whether runway pieces that are not in production or vintage pieces from their archives, so we’re very excited to see what will be offered. Are you volunteering to man any booths? You’ll find us working at one booth or another throughout the night — and you’ll definitely see us at Opening Ceremony’s own booth! Will you be wearing berets? We may. Regardless, you can be sure we will take advantage of this year’s French theme. C’est la mode!
