We wrapped up HANDS ON with Hard French (SF) by the pool with Heineken Light specials, a stint at the parade with the Ace team, Jackie Beat live in the Amigo Room, and Linda's R-Rated Sissy Bingo in King’s Highway. Thanks to everyone who came and celebrated with us in the desert.

Saturday night, Light Asylum took everyone to church and shook the walls of the Amigo Room with dark, hard, danceable freakout. Beyondadoubt laid out her bounce and house tracks with a mix of nu-wave, cold wave and dark wave perfection. CockFight opened up the night with an inexplicably pitch perfect mix of house and rock for our penultimate eve of HANDS ON.

INTERVIEW : BEYONDADOUBT

Beyondadoubt, pictured here at The George & Dragon in Shoreditch, London, has an encyclopedic knowledge of genres of music most barely know how to recognize. She’s been creating hybrid tracks of bounce, house, soul and punk for over a decade, playing soul 45s all over the country and her own dance music all over the world. Recently back in the US from a European tour with Beth Ditto, she’s playing tonight at HANDS ON with Light Asylum and DJs from CockFight.

We asked her for a plalist of some of her favorite tracks, below. Come get thanked by your own ass tonight on the dance floor, 10pm til 2am, free to all.

1. Tears Baby by Johnny West - 1962 RnB

I’m really a sucker for any song that mentions the word tears.

2. No G.D.M. by Gina X - 1979 New Wave

This is always a stand out track. For me it’s at a perfect tempo. I love the lyrics, “you are perfect you are shear if you are a redhead queer.”

3. Poloroid by Ruth  - 1985 New Wave

Cold wave, Dark wave, Synth wave? Not sure which is the correct term, but this song is pretty near perfect with the deadpan vocals, synth lines and horn line. My girlfriend hates the female vocals on this one, but I don’t mind and actually really like the contrast.

4. Homework by Otis Rush - 1962 RnB

Horns Horns Horns Horns. Ugh so good.

5. Make dat Ass Go by SBP Gunna - 2010 Bounce

An amazing video of New Orleans shakers. Absolutely LOVE that they are all over the construction equipment.

6. Home Depot (Hammertime) by Blaq n Mild - 2009 Bounce

A bounce classic by legends Blaq n Mild. Bounce shakers descend on Home Depot and reek amazing havoc. So fun.

Forster Rudolph is our HANDS ON Button Contest winner, and will be enjoying two free nights at Ace Hotel & Swim Club this weekend during gay pride. This is the clever little button he made which we’re passing out to guests this weekend — one has your name on it.
Forster is also a designer and sculptor, and we really like some of his work.

INTERVIEW : KINGDOM
KINGDOM has been putting dance floors in ecstatic trances for many years. He joins us during pride in Palm Springs at HANDS ON, as DJ Day’s special ¡Reunión! guest. Catch him from 10pm til late on Thursday in the Amigo Room at Ace Hotel & Swim Club, and get to know him a little better below.
What’s inspiring you at the moment?
I just moved to LA a year ago from Brooklyn, this place is inspiring me, the climate, the mountains, the ocean, and also my crew here (Nguzunguzu & Total Freedom) inspire me a lot. Recently we did a Fade to Mind showcase in Mexico City and feeling that city for the first time was also great.
What are you working on right now?
I have a lot of new music out there at the moment! My songs Take Me and If You Buckare out now, and my next EP Dreama will be out November 22nd. Also my label Fade to Mind will be releasing NYC-based Ballroom/Vogue producer MikeQ’s debut EP November 21st. We will be celebrating both releases with a huge party in LA at Los Globos on the 18th.
On that note, join us for a free screening of PARIS IS BURNING, a 1990s documentary about NYC Ballroom and Vogueing culture — screening Friday night at 8:30pm at HANDS ON.
