Ace Hotel

Jessica Hische is among the Young Guns chosen by our friends at the Art Directors Club every year. Jessica’s obviously a total badass. A bunch of their Young Guns have created art at Ace Hotel New York, including Dora & Maja, Mike Perry, Tim Goodman, Chris Rubino, Damien Correll, Garrett Morin, Josh Cochran and Alex Kirzhner.

ADC is hosting their first big Young Guns party of the season tonight, to celebrate their call for entries to ADC Young Guns 9. Bloodwrestling, live music and who knows what else will shake down. The party is 20 bucks (free to members and past winners), at the ADC gallery, 106 West 29th Street in NYC, from 7 to 11pm. See more info here.

Jasper Wong made these illustrations and our friends at Ice Cold Frames framed them. They just finished installing the pieces in loft suite 611 at Ace Hotel New York. Mr. Wong is a Hong Kong-based artist and co-founder of Above Second artist-run gallery and studio space. He confesses to having ”a frosty illustration style that developed around an odd and unhealthy obsession with the color pink, Mr. T, and magical laser beams.” Check out more of his work on his website.

Terence Koh has installed his piece, Big White Cock, in the storied Room 1011 at Ace Hotel New York for keeps. A limited run of prints are available through Exhibition A while they’ve got them.
Terence Koh collaborates frequently with Lady Gaga and has written invisible poetry and transformed a Hamptons corn field into a secret sculpture garden. This print was inspired by his iconic neon light sculpture. Here, Terence transforms his original work into a symbol of white male aggression glowing before a stark black background. Source material for his original work was borrowed from the marquee signage outside a famous East Village gay bar. Like the majority of Koh’s creative output to date, Big White Cock tackles themes of identity, sexuality, containment and the urban experience — as sublimely beautiful as one of Terence’s invisible love poems.

Michael Anderson is the artist responsible for lining the lobby stairwell at Ace Hotel New York with graffiti stickers. He is a controversial, innovative and interesting person we’re glad to know. Michael has a show opening at Claire Oliver today in New York called The Street is My Palette. There’s a reception tonight from 6-8pm at the gallery, where you can meet the artist and see the pieces he’s created around the impulse to tear down, reconstruct, question and reuse advertisements — a reclamation of the public and interior space.

New art in room 927 at Ace Hotel New Yorkby some friends who kindly decorate the streets of New York, as well, free of charge.

Resident artist Johnne Eschleman recently posted a secret code in room 727 at Ace Hotel New York. Solving it may be easy for some, difficult for others. Depends on the quantity and quality of what you’ve imbibed before making it back to your room. If you can’t parse it, drink lots of water before you go to bed.
