Saturday afternoon at Desert GoldJenny O by the pool, Shannon Funchess of Light Asylum in the Docs gifting suite, make-your-own Havaianas cart, sun-gazing from the Stargazing Deck and one third of A Tribe Called Quest in the Converse suite. We had a super labor-intensive afternoon of drinking Kanon with homemade lavender syrup and cold Vita Coco, swimming and getting ready for tonight. Pity us.

We’ve collaborated with Converse on a new colorway for our custom Ace Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey kicks, now in a rich black waxed canvas upper with navy outsoles. These are on the handsome and agile feet of our staff in NYC, Portland and Seattle — once you’ve got your own pair, you can give a knowing wink and a nod to the Ace team whenever you visit us. A limited edition run of 300 is now up on our online shop.

“Ace is the Converse of hotels — high, low and a comfortable classic. I have been wearing Chuck Taylor shoes all my life so we are very excited and honored for Converse to create this special model for Ace. It was inspired by archival shoes Converse made in the ‘40s. We will wear them proudly.”
This is from Ace partner Alex Calderwood about our newest collaboration with friends at Converse: the Ace-exclusive Chuck Taylor All Star Bosey shoe. There are only 300 of them in the world, and they are now available on our online shop. For a couple of years, staff at Ace Hotel New York have been wearing a monochrome olive drab Converse as part of their uniform. You could only get a pair if you worked for Ace or made eyes at one of us. These new ones are inspired by shoes from the Converse archive — they have the feel of a sneaker, but with rugged boot detailing and design cues taken from vintage wading boots and basic training shoes Converse made in the 1940s.
Get a pair for yourself or for someone who makes eyes at you.

Ace Goes to SXSW

We joined our friends at Levi’s and Converse for SXSW and created a very special VIP area for performers. A room from Ace Palm Springs sprung up in the Levi’s Fader Fort where the bands hung out while Will Bryant customized their Converse kicks.

The festival was packed with new and old friends, including Andrew and Andrew — who were there interviewing bands and DJing — and Jason Thome from Converse. The lineup this year was as brilliant as it was diverse — Curren$y, Hauschka, The Morning Benders, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and  Those Darlins give you an idea of the musical feast we were treated to, and the friends hanging out in the Ace Palm Springs Texas outpost.

An Opening Ceremony

Saturday night we celebrated the opening of our two new retail spaces, Opening Ceremony and No. 8a, for Fashion Week at Ace Hotel New York. We like having parties as much as we like making hotels, so we had fun with some of the elements for OC’s party. Our design partners, OMFGCo, stamped and grommetted leather press and VIP badges, and silkscreened OC x Levi’s gift bags. OMFGCo shared some pictures of their die-cutting and letterpress process on their blog. The bags contained, among other gifts, the last remaining pairs of of the Conversex Ace NYC collaboration hightops, a reissue of a discontinued, vintage colorway. (You can look for a new collaborations between Ace and Converse soon.)

We also invited a couple of our friends to play the lobby. DJ Nasir from Neverstop, who we’ve known since Ace was just a little 28-room guest housein Seattle, played dance music in the evening, and Stumptown brought Beyondadoubt, one of Portland’s favorite DJs, to play a late night set of 60’s soul 45s.

After a celebration dinner of fried chicken, suckling pig, mashed potatoes and biscuits at the Breslin, OC friends and family watched DJ Solange Knowles take the stage with Dirty Projectors at Liberty Hall.

Upstairs, party-goers perused Phillip Lim eye masks and No. 8a’s anti-souvenirs and Jason Schwarzman got a closer look at the goods.
