Negronis are a classic and we have enormous respect for classics. Like a beautiful old building that deserves a passionate suitor such as ourselves, the Negroni blossomed in the hands of our bartenders at Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. This was no clearer than when the gentlemen behind Rapha and Giro joined in creative matrimony over a fifth round of said classic in a corner booth at King’s Highway not so long ago. The lovechild of this union launched Friday — a very clever pair of shoes.

Do yourself a favor and take someone hot on a date to see Breaking Away tomorrow night at Rapha Cycle Club’s San Francisco outpost. See more info on their calendar.

The Rapha Cycle Club will close its Manhattan doors come October and we’ll be joining our friends at the closing party on September 30. Ride the emotional rollercoaster thataccompanies most farewells by alternately slamming local beer from Kelso Brewing and Stumptown Coffee served up by Third Rail. DJ Bryce Rackford will keep things moving along faster than a Shimano Sora crankset. It’s sad to see a good thing go, but we know how to make it fun and so does Rapha. In their own words, “Let’s burn this mother down.”

ONE TRIP PASS X ACE HOTEL : PART IV
Ace Hotel and One Trip Pass continue our coastal caravan from Portland to LA to “rediscover American craft and standards, humor, kitsch, oddities, and the beauty of storytelling through artists, craftsman, individuals of character, stores, markets, wilderness and urban sprawl.” Notes from the Airstream:

It’s the beginning of week two of our trip down the coast, and in true caravan form, ours has expanded. The next morning we hit the road yet again to continue on, this time with Cass and our friend Andrea of Fjallraven on board.Keep an eye out for our LA and PSP pop-ups starting this Thursday, with goods from both shops as well as: APOLIS ACTIVISM // BILLYKIRK // BEST MADE // FIELD NOTES // GOLDEN BEAR // THE HILL-SIDE // MOLLUSK // MEG CO // PEARL+ // PENDLETON // RAPHA // RTH // TANNER // WAR HORSE MOCCASINS // YUKETAN

Handmade Bicycle Builders at Rapha Pop Up Shop

The Rapha Cycle Club on Bowery is hosting an exhibition tonight showcasing the handmade bicycles from the Rapha Continental, and the bicycle builders who built them will be in attendance to talk about their trade. The show also features photography from Daniel Sharp and Chris Milliman, as well as drawings from Continental rider Peter Rubijono. Everybody’s welcome — champagne and beer are on the house. Look for this guy if you go.

Our friends at Rapha launched a pop up Cycle Club at 352 Bowery in New York City last night, celebrating with friends and cycling fanatics over Stumptown coffee and Stella Artois. In addition to providing rough riders with gear and supplies, The Club will be the place to watch live coverage of racing throughout the summer (they’ll close up shop in September). Stop by to visit, and stay tuned on their blog for an events calendar, invitations to weekly group rides, movie screenings, exhibitions, and more.

Rapha, a cycling accoutrements company that we really like, recently stayed at Ace NYC before their Tour of the Battenkill. The Rapha Condor Sharp racers arrived by cover of night and ate a late-night feast at The Breslin over a few bottles of wine from Grochau Cellars, a small batch Oregon-based winery. The bottles were emblazoned with cyclists by illustrator Chris McNally, a tribute to the team’s first US journey, and their reason for staying at Ace - the Tour of the the Battenkill.

Raan, Shea, and Stenn Parton are three brothers who run Apolis Activism, a men’s clothing line out of LA that works to instill social responsibility and global activism in its projects. Recently, they worked with Rapha, a line of cycling clothing and accoutrement, to create the Transit Elite Sweater, their answer to après-ski attire. In December, they went to Kathmandu, Nepal together to meet the people manufacturing the limited run of 225 handmade Apolis Activism x Rapha sweaters. They made a video about their cycling trip, the friends they made, and the craftspeople creating their products.
We like their style. You can follow their blog to stay abreast of their projects and excursions.
