Our pal Steven Harrington is the proud father of a new solo show of paintings, prints, drawings and, yes, sculptures, Inside Out, at Known Gallery in LA. If we could have a life where we lived exclusively among Steven Harrington sculptures, we would be eternally happy. Join Generic Surplus and a gaggle of friendly and awesome people at the opening party tomorrow evening, August 18, from 8 to 11pm at 411 N. Fairfax. If you can’t make the party, the show is up through September 1.
Steven Harrington painted this awesome mural at Ace Hotel & Swim Club during Desert Gold 2012 and he got black paint all up in his custom Generic Man x Ace Hotel x Steve Borstal Shoes. That’s cool. If you want some, snatch up one of the few remaining limited edition pairs on our shop.
Steven Harrington invented a pictorial language of symbols and runes for his collaborative capsule collection with Ace Hotel and Generic Surplus for this year’s Desert Gold: Roadside Attraction pop-up shop. Steven has constructed his vision of a roadside desert pit stop — a place evocative of the odd wonders that dot the blacktop in the wide open spaces, filled with original art and desert-celebratory wares.
The Teepee Tee, California Tee and Long-Sleeve Shirt, Painted Rock Tee, Iconography Tank, Harrington Bandana and Harrington Towel are available now on our online shop. The Borstal Shoe Collection is available for pre-order and available for shipping in early May.
Steven Harrington is painting a ginormous mural on the side of the Commune for Desert Gold 2012. Steven’s also taking a break from his pop-up shop with Generic Surplus, Roadside Attraction, to guest DJ Saturday night in the Amigo Room with Stronghold.

Welcome all ye wanderers and weirdos — Desert Gold lives again. This year, our pal Steve Harrington is putting together a pop-up shop in the Clubhouse that pays homage to road trips, curiosity shops and the forgotten places tucked along the long black river where all the magic happens. He’s also creating a gigantic mural on the side of the Commune and launching a capsule collection inspired by his chalk drawings scattered through the Joshua Tree desert, including a shoe in collaboration with Ace and Generic Surplus exclusively for the event, so if you show up with only a walking stick and a crazed look in your eye, we can at least outfit you with some kicks.
