Rudy’s are good people. They’re our neighbor in Manhattan and Seattle (and elsewhere) and now they have a new outpost in Williamsburg — a mercantile for which 100% of profits are going to support Waves for Water's Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Stop by for a haircut, some Stumptown Coffee and good, upstanding holiday gifts for your loved ones and yourself. If you’re staying with us at Ace, flash your room key for 10% off everything in the shop.

INTERVIEW : PAIGE POWELL
We chatted with Paige Powell outside of Stumptown at Ace New York one morning this week. Paige is a pillar of the New York art world, was a confidante of Andy Warhol, and is one of the gentlest and funnest people around, and a fashion icon. She’s an old friend with fantastic fashion sense and she had this incredible, day glow jacket on, not to mention everything else…
Tell me about your fantastic coat.
The smurf blue day glow coat is by Stephen Sprouse and underneath a micro-mini skirt in the same color and fabric. Stephen’s clothes are so sexy, timeless and charged with energy. I think he made that ensemble in 1989. My boots (not in the picture) are from the beautiful Isabel Toledo’s vegan line for Payless Shoes. I’m also wearing matte, metallic red titanium sunglasses by Christoph Broich. But my main staple is Amy Sacks Eyewear — their world headquarters are in Portland, Oregon. The earrings, by the way, are ruby red Ted Muehling drops.
Where were you on your way to when this was taken?
En route by foot to the Chelsea Hotel to visit friends then Baldessari exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum.
Stumptown is a little outpost of Portland (where we both call home) in NYC —- do you stop there when you’re in town?
I’m so ecstatic that Stumptown is in New York City — it’s the only place in all of New York to get the best coffee served by the cutest and fashionably coolest baristas. Oh, can I also mention how terrific Ace doorman Mike is?
Yes, we love him, too. Thanks, Paige!
Oh, thank you.

Danielle of Stumptown at Ace New York just won the Northeast Regional Barista Championship. She’ll now have a chance to pull shots in Anaheim in April at the US national level of the 2010 World Barista Championship, among even more movers and shakers in the world of coffee fine arts. Congratulations, Danielle! Come try a shot of her espresso sometime.

It snowed.

New York City is covered in snow. This picture is from the window of room 918. It’s pretty epic.

If you’re stuck here, you can stay with us for not very much, and we’ll buy you a Stumptown hot chocolate while you’re here. If you’re not stuck here, you’re kind of missing out because it looks really beautiful in the streets, and the hot chocolate is ridiculously good.

The Mast Brothers are roasting cacao beans in Williamsburg, NY, and Stumptown Coffee at Ace Hotel New York mixes their chocolate with Red Hook-roasted espresso and Hudson Valley milk to make mochas. According to New York Times Magazine, “it’s the most carefully (and locally) sourced, intricately made drink you can have outside a cocktail bar.”

The Selby took pictures at the Mast Brothers Chocolate factory.

And New York Times magazine enjoyed a mocha in the lobby.
